Gamers and streamers, there’s a new expansion pack to take note of. IKEA, has extended their line of affordable, functional furniture into the gaming arena, with an entire gaming range of ergonomic desks, chairs, and accessories that will fit beautifully into your home — while, hopefully, raising your APM too. This first foray has them collaborating with the professionals at Republic of Gamers (ROG) for the ideal gaming set-up, and will launch in IKEA Singapore stores from 4 November 2021.
With an estimated 2.5 billion gamers worldwide, and counting, it’s safe to say that many of us are familiar with spending long hours in front of the PC or gaming console, in the name of leisure, thankfully, though that’s often accompanied by muscle aches, and neck or finger cramps as well. IKEA, therefore, is here to give us elegant and smart high-performance solutions that cater to these specific needs.
Working together with ROG, an ASUS sub-brand known for gaming hardware, the furniture brand has gone on to create more than 30 home items — of gaming desks and chairs, a drawer unit, and accessories such as a neck pillow, mug holder, and mouse bungee — that make it easy for everyone to create their dream gaming set-up, pro gamer or not.
These include six new product families that target PC gamers: UPPSPEL, LÅNESPELARE, MATCHSPEL, GRUPPSPEL, UTESPELARE and HUVUDSPELARE. All UPPSPEL products have been designed by both IKEA and ROG in close collaboration; the rest of the series have been developed by IKEA based on the insights and knowledge gained from the collaboration.
“We want our products to offer better ergonomics and functions so that gamers can become even better at what they do without wearing out their bodies – become better athletes, basically”, says IKEA designer Jon Karlsson.
A key highlight would be the generously-sized MATCHSPEL gaming chair, which is designed to be comfortable while enhancing your gaming performance. The chair includes adjustable armrests that relieve strain on the arms and shoulders, added flexibility in the headrest, as well as built-in lumbar support and a mesh back to ensure steady airflow.
Then, there’s the UPPSPEL gaming desk, a height-adjustable battle station essentially. Available in two sizes, it’s designed such that either side can be used as the front — a V-cut portion can function as easy cable management, or give you a more immersive layout that gets you closer to the screen.
Accessories include a CPU stand with castors and a mousepad, among other things, though several sleek essentials stand out. A multi-functional LÅNESPELARE cushion/blanket is really both, when you’re looking for some added warmth while exploring virtual worlds, and features a cyberpattern that’s replicated across a neck pillow and mug as well. A functional mouse bungee ensures unhindered movement, while a wooden accessories stand, in the shape of a robot hand, makes for a nice resting spot for your headphones — if you can pry yourself away from the PC that is.
