Kipling Taps On Hong Kong Designer Victoria Tang For Bags With Gradient Colour Straps And Chunky Chains

We love when fashion designers do their own take on Kipling’s functional designs, and this next one’s quite the standout. Hong Kong-based designer Victoria Tang — a respected name who has helmed positions of creative director, photographer, and product designer — has reimagined a selection of everyday accessories such as shoulder bags and backpacks, in trendy colours of dark emerald and ice lavender that capture the ephemeral feeling of being in the moment.

“Kipling for me is a nostalgic brand because I grew up with it. The brand has been a part of my childhood in so many ways, and my first-ever purchase from Kipling was the pencil case,” said Victoria Tang. “The fact that the brand is now growing and looking for diversification is great, and it allows me to see the progression throughout my lifetime. So, when I was asked if I wanted to collaborate with Kipling, I thought, what a great opportunity!”

The range is meant for women on-the-go, and as with all Kipling accessories, each bag is lightweight while packing in loads of functions. The CITY PACK S backpack, for instance, has a detachable front pocket that can be converted into a waist bag, while the KIMMIE crossbody has a removable pouch; you’ll also be familiar with the roomy ART tote bag and sleek DELIA backpack.

What may be less familiar though is the monochromatic treatment, where it looks like the styles are dipped in colour and paired with cool silver hardware. We’ve got to mention the gradient colour straps as well, and the chunky chain detail that give them a little more urban sophistication. Keen-eyed shoppers will also want to look out for the pop colour linings — a pinkish-red for the emerald, and bright orange to contrast with cool-toned lavender.
