THE ONITSUKA Introduces Their First-Ever Capsule Collection, With Men’s Fashion Icon Nick Wooster

With his minimalist yet refreshingly utilitarian style, men’s fashion icon Nick Wooster is the perfect collaborator for THE ONITSUKA, a dress shoes line that’s itself a new contemporary take on Onitsuka Tiger’s sportswear history.

The line’s first-ever capsule collection, THE ONITSUKA × NICK WOOSTER, further pushes the Japanese brand towards the fashion arena, with sleek boots and brogues, as well as a bomber jacket and skirt pants, leading the series. It’s set to launch at THE ONITSUKA and Onitsuka Tiger stores in six countries (Japan, the U.S., the U.K., Italy, China, and Singapore) on March 17, 2023.

“When creating something, my approach is to complete a whole style first,” says Nick Wooster. “This capsule collection was constructed by combining a bomber jacket with skirt pants as the base.” The visionary also goes on to describe his minimalist colour palette — of white, black, and military green — which unifies the styles, and allows them to be mixed and matched for endless combinations.

While these may look like ordinary silhouettes, closer inspection unveils key details such as intentional dropped shoulders on the tops, cut for baggier fits, as well as simple yet effective three-dimensional pockets on the arms and chests of the apparel, even the t-shirts, to emphasise their utilitarian inspiration.

As for the shoes, we’ve got the BROGUE CHUKKA, an interesting intersection of formal brogue shoes and their stitching, now reinterpreted as mid-cut chukka boots. A pair of chunky WIGURVE consists of a classic derby upper and voluminous sole, done entirely in military green calf leather and EVA respectively, while there’s also the WIGURVE SIDE GORE BOOT, a chunky boot refined with fluid lines.
