Every New Makeup Launch From NARS This Summer

Makeup launches are one thing on the excitement scale; summer and festive makeup launches are on a whole other level. We often wait with bated breath whenever these two seasons come around, because you bet, beauty brands are constantly trying to outshine each other with the most creative flair.

The trends making the biggest splash this year? Neon and vivid brights (though you might want to be careful about putting them near your eyes), along with the usual bronze glow, now even more glowy and ethereal, with the most exciting packaging to boot.

And scoring high on both style and substance, NARS’ summer releases, which just skyrocketed to the top of our ‘Want’ list. Face palettes, plenty of eyeshadows, and the cutest Mini Wanted Eyeshadow Palette, whatever suits your fancy, know that we’ve got it swatched so you can see how the shades turn up on both light and medium-dark skin tones — you’ll be surprised at the difference that makes.

Summer Edit 2019

NARS Summer 2019 Hot Nights Face Palette (Limited Edition), $90
Velvet Matte Lip Pencils and Satin Lip Pencils, $38

Turn up the heat with this limited edition NARS Face Palette, which boasts a repertoire of everything you need to create a stunning summer glow — for the Hot Nights version, there are four eyeshadow shades that tend towards a soft dusty pink, cranberry and a shimmering purple, while there’s also a rose gold highlighter and a matte mid-tone bronzer.

For your lips, these on-the-go pencils glide on effortlessly and cushion your lips with comfort, while you’ll still get a rich colour payoff. We’re liking the colour selection too; the warm rose-browns definitely complement the earthy tones on the face palettes.

From our swatches, you can tell that the eyeshadows come pigmented enough, with a beautiful radiance on both light and dark skin tones. However, unless you’ve got lighter skin, it may be quite hard to detect the face palette’s bronzing shade in pictures. As far as subtle highlighting / contouring goes though, you might still want to pick these up — the formulas are created to be buildable, and the bronzer adds a tinge of summery warmth. The lip shades, on the other hand, turned up really nicely, and once again, truly glide on like a dream.

NARSissist Mini Wanted Eyeshadow Palette

NARSissist Mini Wanted Eyeshadow Palette, $45

Cutest palette ever? Yes! Pocket-sized minis are certainly mesmerising, especially when they pack so much in something that’s smaller than the palm of your hand. This one’s smaller than your namecard! The Wanted Mini Eyeshadow Palette presents the most desirable shades from the bestselling Wanted Eyeshadow Palette, with a compilation of 6 addictive eyeshadows you’ll want to dip your brush (or fingers) into again and again.

2019’s new nudes tend towards the rose gold / pink tones, which is why you’ll find a shimmering gold pink,  metallic rose, sparkling champagne, and satin raspberry among your choices. Know what good technology goes into all NARS eyeshadows too — basically, a liquid-binding system gives you high-impact colour in one swipe, so these shades should deliver on the intensity.

What we loved from the swatches is seeing how complementary the colours are, no matter your base! On darker skin, the gold and copper shimmers showed up more, and can attest to the quality payoff of NARS’ formulas. Compared to the former’s more neutral-looking shades, lighter skin revealed the more rosy tones (see: Delirium, second from the top), while there’s also more of a diffused soft glow. Wicked Game, a satin cranberry, also looks slightly warmer.

Voyageur Eyeshadow Palette

Voyageur Eyeshadow Palette (Nectar), $49

Summer and sunshine will always remind us of travel, and we promise, it’s not just nostalgia speaking. With the world addicted to glorious escapades and the transformative experience of travel, you bet that NARS is offering something for us to bring along.

Presenting, NARS’ series of six Voyageur Eyeshadow Palettes, travel compacts that are curated for you to take on the go. Each sees a range of buttery mattes, satins and multi-dimensional glitters — basically, versatility — so you’ll never be left stranded on your trip. These are only slightly bigger than the Mini Wanted, which means it’s not much of a chore to say that you brought your entire eyeshadow palette along, again.

We had real fun playing ‘spot the difference’ with these ones. Similar to Mini Wanted, as a general rule, warm tones and nuanced pinks showed up more obviously on light skin, while shimmers really shined on darker skin. Still, the pinks and purples for the Hibiscus and Quartz palettes fared well — we’d definitely be spending on the Quartz Palette, especially seeing how the rich golds and burgundy rocked a tan/deep complexion. For fairer skin tones, the Nectar Palette would be our pick; its swatches of apricot, terracotta, and those alluring gold highlights, capture the summer mood perfectly.
