Oh, The xx, how we’ve missed you. After giving fans a preview of their new material last November (have you heard On Hold yet, btw?), the London-based trio have kicked off the new year with the release of another track, Say Something Loving.
The band teased the song in a minute-long tweet on new year’s day — featuring vocalists Oliver Sim and Romy Madley Croft singing it live in a karaoke bar — and later released the track in its entirety at midnight. While Say Something Loving features the band’s signature electronic beats and haunting vocal melodies, it’s also noticeably more upbeat as compared to their previous material. Could it have something to do with Croft’s recent engagement to fashion designer Hannah Marshall?
Whatever the reason is, Say Something Loving signals a fresh new direction for the band, and have only made us more excited for their forthcoming album I See You, which will be released later this month on the 13th of January. Until then, you can listen to the track for yourself here:
