Say whatever you will, but the adidas Originals line of shoes are hands down one of the most fashionable and trendiest shoes to sport currently. Just look at the classic pair of Stan Smiths which recently went through another iteration, along with Pharrell William’s matching Tennis Hu silhouette. And the ever-popular NMDs? Not to mention the adidas Superstars that are always sold out in popular shoe sizes? If you’re still not convinced, this upcoming collaboration between adidas Originals and Hender Scheme will.
Known for it’s minimalistic and vachetta tan leather aesthetics, Hender Scheme is reinterpreting three models from the adidas Originals archives – the NMD_R1, the Superstar, and the MicroPacer. Hand-made in Tokyo using undyed leather and replaceable soles, the artisanal shoes were Hender Scheme’s founder, Ryo Kashiwazaki’s exploration of the relationship between performance and lifestyle footwear.
While Hender Scheme has previously released it’s own versions of the Superstar and the Micropacer before, this collection is an official collaboration between the two brands, and features the official adidas branding on the shoes. However, the unique aspect of the kicks are that some of the key characteristics of the respective sneakers are being excluded – the pedometer is being stripped off from the MicroPacer, while the NMD has its signature BOOST midsole removed. Nonetheless, the attention to detail is superb, and with great quality and design comes an equally jaw-dropping price tag and in limited quantities at that. The Superstar will cost you US$900, while the MicroPacer retails at US$950, with the NMD being the most expensive, at US$1,000. We guess we will just have to eat grass for the rest of the month.
