Stay-Home Beauty Essentials To Tide You Over This Circuit Breaker

Oh, it’s getting serious now. With plenty of nail, hair and grooming services currently suspended, some of us might actually emerge from these two months with a Frida Kahlo unibrow and an unruly mane messier than Simba in Hakuna Matata mode. No worries for the rest of your days? Quite unlikely.

Unless you try recreating the salon experience at home, that is. We’ve previously written about beauty hacks to save overgrown hair, nails and lashes. Consider that a guide, and this, well a shopping guide of the items we’d recommend to stock up on, in order to fulfil those not-so-lofty fantasies.

The checklist of ideal achievements is as follows: smooth, manageable hair without the bedhead; lashes, brows and nails that are tamed and well-maintained; skin that’s glowy and happy; and finally, a you that’s refreshed and relaxed. We’ll try, alright.

For smooth, voluminous and presentable hair, minus the bedhead.

Glorious hair is an ideal 365 days of the year, but what do we do without our beloved and trusted hairdressers fixing all of life’s problems for us, including the talk therapy bit? D-I-Y. Here, we’re tackling presentable hair on three fronts — the goal of smooth hair, a healthy scalp that promotes hair growth and prevents hair fall, as well as maintaining coloured hair without the fuss.

1. OUAI Hair Oil 45ml, $42 ; 2. Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie 326ml, $23

OUAI’s hair oil, then, is a godsend for nourished hair, and works to smoothen frizz and seal split ends so your hair’s a little more manageable. As for those of us whose previously curled hair will not get a touch-up this month, maintain your tresses with Shea Moisture’s Smoothie, which works as both a treatment and styling cream.

3. Tangle Teezer The Wet Detangler Hair Brush – Millennial Pink, $21 ; 4. Nanogen Growth Factor Thickening Treatment Serum (30ml), $52 ; 5. Christophe Robin Cleansing Purifying Scrub with Sea Salt 75ml, $29

For a full and healthy head of hair, you’ll want to give it some TLC with Tangle Teezer’s brush that detangles without tugging, an award-winning scalp cleansing scrub that removes impurities and restores balance, and a serum that promotes healthy hair growth. Coloured hair fans can look to Bleach London and Lime Crime, whether it’s peach-tinted shampoos or semi-permanent colour tints to maintain your bold bleached locks.

6. BLEACH LONDON Awkward Peach Conditioner 250ml, $13.50 ; 7. Lime Crime Unicorn Hair Tint, $25.50

For maintaining your nails, brows and lashes.

Once again, get that at-home salon routine down pat, starting with your brows and lashes. Do not lament the loss of your lash extensions or lash lift — instead, try Hairburst’s and RapidLash’s innovative lash-enhancing solutions, both of which promise to deeply condition your lashes with nutrients, to improve the appearance of spares lashes so you may get lengthened, volumised ones. Guess there’s still some drama involved after all.

1. Hairburst Lash and Brow Serum, $58 ; 2. RapidLash Eyelash Enhancing Serum, $70

For those with sparse brows, make brow pencils and brow gels your best friends, especially when Benefit’s volumising fibre eyebrow gel is able to give you fuller-looking brows that looks natural and well-defined. Those with bushy brows on the opposite end of the spectrum, want to try the raved-about Hollywood Browzer; this tool is designed to shape the brows and comfortably remove even the shortest hairs, and can double up as a dermaplaning device that gently removes peach fuzz and exfoliates the top layer of dead skin cells. What did we say about an at-home salon, eh.

Manicures are not to be forgotten, of course, but dare we say leaving your nails naked, just for a while, might contribute greatly to their health. The Ordinary’s cold-pressed Argan Oil is quite the all-rounded solution for nutrient and Vitamin E-rich hair, skin, lips and nails, so we’d recommend this singular purchase to tackle dryness, especially for your cuticles and nail beds. If you must dress them up, and are looking to experiment with fake nail sets or nail polish, try a speedy removal-in-a-bottle method that breaks down glue bonds while leaving them strong, shiny and nourished.

For a glowing face and body, despite not being under real sun in weeks.

The struggle to stay in is real, and while UV light from the sun is still very present when indoors, it’s not quite the same as being out in the open, breathing in fresh air, with the warmth of the sun on your face. Not trying to tempt you there!

You can at least look the part without the UV damage. Here are a couple of self-tanning solutions that won’t give you that fake-looking orange — Body Glow gives you a hint of tan with their daily moisturiser; Isle of Paradise’s is a transparent tanning water goes on even without transferring onto your clothes; and The Chemistry calls theirs a self-tan alternative, since it disperses tiny golden prisms to create a sunkissed glow.

1. Body Glow by SKINNY TAN Light Lotion 280ml, $14 ; 2. Isle of Paradise Self-Tanning Water – Medium 200ml, $33.50 ; 3. The Chemistry Brand Glow Oil 100ml, $35.jpg ;

If those still sound too radical for you, we’d trust Aesop’s geranium leaf and bamboo formula to gently slough away dead skin cells and unveil your skin’s inner radiance.

Again, that glow can also be achieved with some well-placed makeup. Shiseido’s foundation is a no-brainer for its ability to resist heat, oil, and humidity by adapting to your skin’s condition. We’d throw in a liquid highlighter on the high points of your face for an illuminating glow, and Pixi’s creamy blusher for a natural-looking flush.

5. Shiseido Synchro Skin Self Refreshing Foundation 30ml, $68.50 ; 6. L’Oréal Paris Glow Mon Amour Liquid Highlighting Drops – Champagne 15ml, $17.50.jpg ; 7. PIXI On-The-Glow Blush, $25.50

For the ultimate at-home indulgence.

Finally, care for your mental well-being with these pampering treats. There’s hand wash, and then there’s Aesop’s Hand Wash, infused with purifying citrus extracts and the most delicate earthy scent. Frequent hand-washing also calls for a beauty item as extra as a hand mask, while your face deserves a device as advanced as Foreo’s UFO 2. This device is essentially a face mask in 90 seconds, while also using Thermotherapy to soften the skin, Cryotherapy to lift and firm, and T-Sonic™ pulsations to promote blood circulation for a healthy, glowing complexion.

1. Aesop Reverence Aromatique Hand Wash 500ml, $53 ; 2. BeautyPro Hand Therapy Collagen Infused Glove with Removable Finger Tips, $9 ; 3. FOREO UFO 2 Device, $436
