Why We’re Embracing Pink Menswear For Healthy Masculinity

In celebration of Pride Month/Pink Dot and healthy masculinity, we are making a case for more men to wear pink. Not just in the month of June, but all year round, because men with a cultivated, confident mindset is something to celebrate anytime.

A portrait of a young male aristocrat in PINK FORMAL WEAR. The colour is often associated with war-like connotations and is worn by boys to denote their familial ties with the military.

What many may not know, is that while pink is generally considered a feminine colour today, this wasn’t the case in the hundreds of years prior. Historically speaking, the colour was often attributed to boys as it’s a variation of red — which has war-like connotations and thus viewed as a manly hue.

LIFE MAGAZINE famously covered a story on the popularity of pink clothes with young men from Ivy League universities.

Pink clothes worn by men in the 1920s also reflects an elite, aristocratic upbringing due to its popularity with young men from Ivy League universities.

If you need more convincing, there’s research that shows that men who wear pink are generally better educated, make more money, and receive more compliments from ladies as compared to peers who prefer other colours.

And if you need some help to figure out how to pull off pink clothes, then read on for our tips.

Conveniently, men of any skin tone can wear pink, but it’s also best to stick to more pastel shades of the colour as they are more classically handsome. The easiest way to wear solid pink is to go for a button-down dress shirt. Wear them with a charcoal grey or royal blue suit separates to look particularly sharp.

Pink polo shirts are another easy option, that’ll work great for those who favour the preppy look.

Pink t-shirts and sweaters, on the other hand, tend to appear feminine still, but they make great basic casuals if you’re game for it.

A pink two-piece suit takes quite a bit of additional confidence to pull off and a desire to stand out. But if you feel like you’ve got what it takes, then don’t let anyone convince you otherwise.

In the novel The Great Gatsby, the TITULAR CHARACTER is known to don pink to associate himself with the upper echelons of 1920s society.

Famously worn in literary fiction by Jay Gatsby, you can also consider taking the next step with a pink seersucker/linen suit. Perfect for springtime, sunny outdoor celebrations, and horse races (if that’s your thing).
