Our parents always told us to never play with our food, but it hasn’t stopped us much to be very honest. It took a while, but the ‘dirty, dirty bread’ craze, or the ‘zang zang bao’ (脏脏包) craze has finally spread to our shores from Beijing.
The idea is to bite into a bun dusted with different flavoured powder like matcha and chocolate. The powder will stain your face depending on your chosen flavour, resulting in a messy face and hands. Even the Muttons have joined in the fun!
Even though the bread got its name from how dirty it looks, it is pretty impossible to eat it without dirtying your hands and face. Your mum might tell you tell spilling your meal all over yourself is embarrassing, but apparently on the internet, getting down and dirty with your food is a sign that you’ve just scored one of the hottest eats of the year. Or that you really, really enjoyed your food.
Want to jump on the bandwagon? Here’s where you can get your ‘dirty bread’ to show off! #internetftw
