Uniqlo Is Launching A Billie Eilish x Takashi Murakami UT Collection

You might not think these two have a lot in common, but that’s the point — moody pop singer and celebrated Grammy-snagging musician, Billie Eilish, pairs up with contemporary artist Takashi Murakami for an upcoming UT collection with UNIQLO, to be out online 22 June.

The graphic t-shirts see recognisable motifs  from Eilish’s debut album and “Blohsh” merch, while also showcasing the well-loved art of Japanese illustrator Murakami and his brightly-coloured, manga-style flowers. There’s also a collaboration logo specially designed for this UT series.

That said, the union may not be that unexpected after all, especially when we hear that both artists became friends on Instagram, while the pair also had previously collaborated on an animated music video of Eilish’s song, “you should see me in a crown“, where the illustrator presented a digital version of Eilish that starts off human before evolving into a classic horrorcore spider creature.

Here, the tees (and two caps!) may be more tame in comparison, but we’re still admiring the mash-up of styles, particularly collages of Eilish’s photos and a sketch from her music video that now collide with Murakami’s happy-looking flowers. Fans of either artist — and, who are we kidding, admirers of both — will want to snap this up quickly. Maybe two sizes up too in honour of Eilish’s signature baggy fashion style.
