Is there really any other icon more immediately recognisable for all things pleasant than the Smiley emoji? Jonathan Anderson — creative director of Spanish luxury label LOEWE, doesn’t think so.
As part of LOEWE’s annual tie-in with cultural powerhouse Paula’s Ibiza, their latest collection is putting Smiley® centre-stage on bags, accessories, and clothes to convey a not so subtle “invitation to smile together to brighter days ahead.” Talk about perfect timing.

Hitting the (online) shelves today, the LOEWE Paula’s Ibiza Smiley® collection features some of LOEWE’s most popular bags such as the Basket tote and Heel shoulder bag emblazoned with the conspicuous fluorescent yellow smiling emoji.

Capturing the message of optimism in this collection too, are vibrant tie-dye/ printed oversized cotton-silk t-shirts, that reflect both the rich historical origins of the Smiley® (from the ‘60s hippie movement, and emblematic prominence during the ’80s acid deep-house raves), as well as Anderson’s signature whimsical leanings.

Beautifully-crafted roomy shirts and lacy embroidered dresses in white also make a noteworthy appearance here, which helps to really drive home the concept of escapism, freedom and happiness of this collection.

Of this, Anderson says, “This Smiley drop is all about optimism, elevated to an nth and captured in a colourful way, putting a smile on it. It is about sharing (the most important) values as a community.” And at the end of the day, we simply can’t agree more. 😃
