Under Armour Reveals Their New Tie-Dye Collection That Celebrates Pride Month

Tie-dye fashion has been closely tied to free love and hippies in the 60s, but today, the tie-dye look is making a comeback — even celebrities and fashion designers are starting to embrace the look once again. Take, for instance, Under Armour’s latest Pride Collection that sees a heavy influence of tie-dye in their designs. The footwear and apparel collection is centred around the vibrant tie-dye print that’s also tied with an even more meaningful story behind it.

Serving as a reminder of the original Pride Flag in 1978 that was hand-dyed by the artist Gilbert Baker, in San Francisco, along with a group of volunteers, the flag is a representation of the LGBTQ+ Community and its social movements.

The collection consists of 10 pieces in total — ranging from hoodies to t-shirts, and not to mention, sports bras. But most importantly, the focal point of the collection falls on the Phantom 1 Slip.

The design takes after a laceless and flexible structure that’s washed in the colours of the pride flag.

Zooming into the heels of the Phantom 1 Slip, the blue heel counter of the shoe is a nod to the 2020’s Euro Pride parade in Greece. If you didn’t know, despite the parade being postponed due to the coronavirus, it would have been the first time the parade would have been hosted in a South-East European Country.

The soles and tongue of the Phantom 1 Slip also emphasise on the vibrancy of the design of the shoes.

According to Under Armour, the brand began its journey designing the pair back in 2018, as a result of their collaboration with Unified, Under Armour’s LGBTQ+ Teammate Resource Group — of which they have been a heavy influence on the design of the shoe.

To top it all off, as part of the launch of the collection, Under Armour has also unveiled their UA PRIDE Grant Program, which aims to aid organisations who are facing financial hardships due to the coronavirus situation, especially with LGBTQ+ community-focused non-profits in areas local to UA teammates (Baltimore, MD and Austin, TX).
