LG Electronics’ PuriCare™ Wearable Air Purifier Electronic Mask Will Be Available To The Public This Year

Just when you think you’ve finally gotten the hang of wearing a mask and you’ve found your go-to, like UNIQLO’s long-awaited AIRism Mask or the tried-and-tested Under Armour Sportsmask, LG Electronics is introducing the mask that’s really going to change the game. Known for their reputable air purifying technology, the South Korean company has created a portable version of this — the LG PuriCare™ Wearable Air Purifier.

There’s no doubt that we’ve all had questions about what masks to use, whether on a daily basis, when we’re exercising, or purely for our own protection. The PuriCare™ Wearable Air Purifier was first seen when the company donated 2,000 units to the medical staff at Yonsei Severance Hospital in Seoul, and is set to be available to the public in the fourth quarter of this year.

Using LG’s patented technology, the PuriCare™ Wearable Air Purifier contains 2 H13 HEPA Filters — these replaceable (and recyclable!) filters are similar to the HEPA filters seen in their household air purifiers and air-conditioning units — these filters are able to block up to 99.95% of ultra-fine dust particles. Beneath the filters are tiny, 3-speed Dual Fans that are controlled by the Respiratory Sensor, which automatically adjust according to the cycle and volume of the wearer’s breath. The fans speed up during inhalation to assist air intake, and slow down during exhalation to reduce resistance, creating an effortless breathing experience — gone are the days of the stuffiness we may feel when using regular masks!

If you’re worried about the mask not fitting properly, don’t fret. The mask has been scientifically designed to fit the human face, using an ergonomic design that has been created based on extensive facial shape analysis, conducted in conjunction with Korea University. The PuriCare™ Wearable Air Purifier provides a snug but comfy fit, in order to minimise any air leakage and ensure a comfortable wear — included is a lightweight 820mAh battery, offering two modes: low, for up to 8 hours of operation, and high, for up to 2 hours of use.

The device also comes with a one-of-a-kind UV-LED light-equipped case, that not only sanitises the mask by killing any harmful germs it may have been exposed to, but also charges the mask and sends a notification to the LG ThinQ mobile app when the filters need to be replaced, ensuring peak performance of the mask for the safety of the wearer. For those who may be worried about the environmental impact an electronic mask may have, like its filters, every single component of the LG PuriCare™ Wearable Air Purifier is also replaceable and recyclable — even the ear straps.

The LG PuriCare™ Wearable Air Purifier will be featured during the upcoming Internationale Funkausstellung (IFA) trade show this September, where LG Electronics will be presenting a virtual exhibition. Scheduled to be released in select markets in the fourth quarter of 2020, price TBA.
