Though we’re far from being able to travel, having a bold scent that transports us to a certain place or memory would be the closest we can get to that dream vacation of ours. The right combination of flowers or other botanicals can bring about visions of the sun, sea, or sand — if beach holidays are your thing— or maybe a dreamy field you chanced upon while on a road trip, taking wearers back to their last wanderlust locale or pushing them to their next.
If you’d like to capture the magic of basking in the sun in a garden full of roses, it would smell like Chloé‘s latest offering. The new olfactory, aptly named the Signature Rose Tangerine, conjures up visions of a warm sunny day in a field of blooms, via a sparkling blend of lively and warm floral notes.
British-American actress, Lucy Boynton, otherwise known for her key roles in films such as Bohemian Rhapsody (2018), Murder on the Orient Express (2017), and Miss Potter (2006), also happens to front the major beauty campaign as the face of the new fragrance by Chloé.
Bringing radiance to the scent, the fragrance opens with a burst of tangerine that adds an unexpected fruit-inspired twist to the scent. This is then complemented with notes of roses, followed by vivid blackcurrant with verdant undertones that accentuates the fragrance’s character. The scent then fades into base notes of cedar and white amber, for a finish that’s streamlined and contemporary.
As for our muse, in our exclusive interview with Lucy Boynton, she describes Chloé’s scent as “elegant, playful and romantic.” That playful aspect shines through Boynton’s personality as well, and it makes sense why she was picked to front the campaign — there’s an easy charm and free-spiritedness to this fresh-faced beauty, similar to how the fragrance feels on your skin.
In the interview, Lucy also points out that she loves the “romantically classic design of the new bottle” that features Chloé’s recognisable silhouette in a new soft coral colour, while also accented with an orange-pink grosgrain ribbon to match. Still, the bottle’s iconic profile remains unchanged with its fluted glass and oval cap, where the glass is meant to evoke sun ray pleats that look especially alluring in the light.
The campaign photos and video show Boynton embodying the spontaneous, free-spirited character of Chloé’s latest Eau de Toilette, with her alluring personality on display, perfectly resonating with the Chloé spirit. “I wore the Chloé perfume all throughout the campaign shoot,” tells us, also adding that every time she smells the scent now, it takes her “vividly back to that week in the South of France which was just a total dream”.
On her relationship with scents and fragrances too, she says, “I wear a fragrance to feel more put together and elegant. My favourite scent is something floral, but deep. So, it smells clean and light but adult. I like to stick to one perfume, in that way it kind of becomes part of your identity.”
The campaign video, directed by Jonathan Alric from Paris-based music and video duo, The Blaze, sees Boynton showcasing what it truly means to fully embrace and be yourself. She’s seen laughing and dancing in the high branches of a tree or sitting on the edge of a cliff overlooking the sea, seizing the moment and appreciating her own freedom.
All this perfectly captures the mood of the fragrance, which emphasises on the message of being yourself — definitely a statement the actress can live by. Of that, she says, “I really love Chloé’s message of embracing and being yourself. The beauty standards traditionally set for women have been toxic and exclusive and it’s time that’s dismantled. It’s really powerful to have this message of positivity and acceptance and celebrating yourself just as you are reinforced by such a prominent brand.”
