Crazy Expensive New iPhones Do Not Deter Hundreds Of Apple Fans From Queueing Days Before

Apple fans are a separate breed of their own, judging from the frenzied craze whenever they announce a new product.

Which is why we are not surprised that those who believe themselves at the top of the Apple Master Race have already started queuing for the iPhone XS and XS Max, even though the phones costs anywhere from $1,649 to $2,349 depending on the specs, the day before they launch.

Barricades set up outside the flagship Apple store at Orchard

Just look at all these people who are all ready to camp out overnight for first dibs on Apple’s latest phone. While the queues aren’t as insane as last year’s iPhone 7 launch which reached the hundreds, there was a substantial crowd who couldn’t wait 2 weeks to get their hands on the latest Apple phone.

Just before the rain poured

They even came prepared for the rain, as it poured when we went down at around 6.30pm. For those who didn’t foreshadow the thunderclouds, Apple staff were totally prepared as they handed out ponchos, and moved the line into the sheltered area just outside the store.

Everyone trying to crowd into the shelter cos you can’t give up your place in line

And there aren’t only Singaporeans in the queue. Some people, like the first person in line has flown all the way from Vietnam just to buy the phone.  Le Thang flew in this morning with 43 other members of a Vietnamese group called Dat Cay La, who came here to buy the phones. With suitcase in hand, and fresh from the airport, the group will be flying back tomorrow once they’ve bought their phones. Talk about dedication.

Most of the crowd flew in that day or the day before were from neighboring countries like Thailand and Vietnam, both countries which currently don’t have a launch date for the iPhones. When I managed to find a local who was in the h who took leave just so she could join the queues, she told me that the new phone wasn’t even for her – it was for her mother and her brother.

Everyone came prepared… with phones and chargers.

The iPhone XS and XS Max is not available for store pick up when you preorder or buy online, and there is a shipping time of 1 to 2 weeks. If you’re wondering what’s so amazing about the latest instalment of the iPhone series, check out our breakdown of the Apple Special Event in California.

Over at Courts Orchard, people have already started queueing for the phones too, although the queue is significantly shorter compared to the one outside the store, although it would have been a much better choice the moment it started pouring.
