We’re not new to VR games – Zero Latency is a VR arcade where you can play various role playing games (RPG) that opened late last year in Suntec City. And it was a blast because we got to battle zombies and experience walking in zero-gravity all in one place. It was definitely more exciting than laser tag because these zombies actually felt like they could hurt us!
Now, there’s a VR theme park where you can play VR games and go on thrilling adventures all over the world. HeadRock VR is the first VR theme park of its kind by Mediafront, a new media company from Korea. While most of the games are single player games, there are rides where you and your friends can go on together for thrilling mini-adventures.
Seungri, who is the Creative Director for HeadRock VR and the maknae of Kpop boyband Big Bang, has even revealed that he and Mediafront are working on VR concerts, where you’ll soon be able to watch your idols sing and dance right in front of you. If he can pull that off, we’re sure that everyone will come flocking to HeadRock VR!
The theme park has 11 different immersive attractions, designed to bring you into multi-sensory worlds. From escaping zombies to flying amongst the supergrove trees in Gardens By The Bay, anything can happen.
Take a step away from your consoles into the game itself. Test out your archery skills at Robin Hood to see how many bullseyes you can hit, or take a stab at fencing in the VR Room. Other arcade games includes baseball and shooter-style games where you have to fight your way out or risk getting killed.
Remember Tap Tap Rhythm where you have to tap according to the beats of a track. Beat Saber takes the classic rhythm game a step further, where you use light sabers to zap and slice block as they fly at you. Oh, and you have to do it according to the beat, or they’ll have called it Fruit Ninja VR.
And if you’re afraid of heights but still want to experience that adrenaline rush? There’s a Skyscraper VR, complete with strong fans winds to really make you feel like you’re teetering on the edge of a building. Or go for Flying Dive, where you drop over 1000m into a deep, boiling pit of magma. In reality, it’s about a 2 meter drop cos you would never survive a free fall into a volcano pit.
Horror fans can climb aboard the Hell Rider and choose to explore an abandoned house in the middle of the Amazon forest or just go all out against a group of witches and zombies.
But the two rides that you must experience while you’re there is Extreme Train and Storm Blizzard. Extreme Train is a rollercoaster ride that goes haywire, and you even get to fly amongst the top of the Supertree Grove at Gardens By The Bay. 10 points to whoever can spot all the other iconic Singapore landmarks.
Storm Blizzard on the other hand takes you into on a wintry sledding experience – a lovely respite from the heat. Or at least for that short ride. All the attractions are made for all ages to enjoy, although your kids have to be at least 6 to go on the rides. Even we felt like kids when we were on the rides!
For now, HeadRock VR is the first of its kind, but there are plans to open similar parks in Russia, Japan and China.
