More Ways To Contribute To #BlackLivesMatter With These Designer Labels

In light of recent events that have brought more attention to the #BlackLivesMatter cause, many companies have been outspoken about their support online, with the majority donating directly to related organisations. There are several ways to support the cause, whether it’s through donations, supporting Black-owned businesses or even just sharing posts on social media.

While donations are important, some streetwear brands have released fundraising apparel to further support the cause, and other high-end designer brands have been coming on board as well. For those of you who may have a little more to give, proceeds from these designer pieces will be going towards the movement.

COMME des GARÇONS

CDG has launched a capsule collection featuring a simple series of jackets, T-shirts and tote bags, all adorned with positive messages. Each black CDG Message Staff Jacket (USD140) has graphic text printed on the back, while the white CDG Message T-Shirts (USD55) have the same text printed on the front. The same text was also featured on the now sold out CDG Message Tote Bags (USD120).

Although the capsule collection was originally created to welcome back customers after the Covid-19 crisis, the brand decided to put 100% of the proceeds to the Northside Achievement Zone instead, a Minneapolis-based organisation that helps low-income children of colour in the area on their path to university.

In collaboration with Venezuelan artist Jormi Graterol, the Parisian fashion house launched the Jormi x ART IS HOPE collection, featuring a series of shirts, jackets and bags. Each piece is numbered and adorned with a custom “Art Is Hope” detail.

Made in Italy, the Skull Strass T-Shirt (USD198) is a loose cotton T-shirt with a crystal skull embellishment on the back and the “Art Is Hope” detail on the cuff. On the other hand, the Taskah Leather Shirt (USD798) has the custom detail on the back and the sleeve, on top of the crinkle-effect lambskin leather base.

Also in the collection is the Loon Leather Jacket (USD998), a sleek lambskin jacket featuring silver hardware and a custom “Art Is Hope” detail on the sleeve. Accompanying this is the Kayaka Mili Jacket (USD648), a khaki military jacket with an additional flaming skull patch on the sleeve and custom detailing on the back.

Lastly, the collection also features the Sunny Medium Studs Bag (USD698) and the Lolita Slightly Bag (USD398), both black leather bags that feature silver embellishments and a slightly more colourful “Art Is Hope” detail.

100% of the proceeds from the Jormi x ART IS HOPE collection will be donated to Black Art In America, a Georgia-based organisation that documents, preserves and promotes the contributions of the African American arts community.
