Continue To Support #BlackLivesMatter With These Fundraising Apparel

While it seems as though #BlackLivesMatter social media posts are far less frequent these days, the issues the Black community face are still very real. There isn’t any excuse to forget about this important movement, especially if we are privileged enough to have to remind ourselves to continue to spread awareness.

Over the past few weeks, several big name brands have released public statements and have donated to the BLM cause and its related organisations. Many independent brands have also been launching fundraising collections, where sales proceeds will be donated to the cause.

If you’ve been looking for more ways to support the movement, here are a few labels that will be donating their proceeds, all of which offer international shipping.

KidSuper

In 2017, the New York-based label collaborated with American rapper Russ, releasing a T-shirt that said “If you want to change the system / speak up / white silence is pro racism”. In light of recent events, not only have they re-released the original design along with a hoodie version, but they have also launched 2 new pieces — a black mask with the words “Speak Up”, and a T-shirt that pays homage to some of the many lives lost through police brutality. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to Black Lives Matter.

The Black Lives Matter collection (from $15) is available here.

One Of These Days

Run by artist Matt McCormick, the label has re-released a long-sleeve shirt that states “Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable”, famously said by John F. Kennedy in 1962. Printed on the left sleeve is “1-2-3-4 WDWYFW”, which stands for “1-2-3-4, we don’t want your f***cking war”, a popular slogan many Americans used to oppose the Vietnam war. 100% of the proceeds will be split evenly among 12 charities and organisations, including the Black Lives Matter Global Network and the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund.

The Peaceful Revolution Long-sleeve Shirt (USD120) is available here.

Hyperfly

The athletic brand has released a customised Champion Jersey, which pays tribute to George Floyd and many other victims of police brutality. Emblazoned on the front is “Floyd”, while the back lists victims’ names in a list that forms the American flag. The list is sandwiched in between the Latin phrase “E pluribus unum”, the official motto of the US, which translates to “Out of many, one”, and “Brother’s keeper”. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the Gianna Floyd Fund, which was created to support George Floyd’s daughter.

The George Floyd Tee (USD50) is available here.

Cherry Los Angeles

In collaboration with Carrots, Wasted Youth, SHABBAAAAA Sound System and Uncle Paulie’s Deli, the LA-based label has created a T-shirt depicting a protestor with a sign that states “ENOUGH”. Listed on the back of the shirt are some of the many victims who have lost their lives due to police brutality. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the United Negro College Fund and Black Lives Matter Los Angeles.

The Enough T-Shirt (USD55) is available here.

Denim Tears

Founded by Tremaine Emory, the label has launched a fundraising T-shirt, featuring an image of a man standing in front of a blazing fire. On the back is a quote by American novelist and activist James Baldwin from 1968, which states, “The question I’m trying to raise is a very serious question. The mass media — television and all other news agencies — endlessly use that word ‘looter’ … On television you always see black hands reaching in, you know. And so the American public concludes that these savages are trying to steal everything from us. And no one has seriously tried to get where the trouble is. After all, you’re accusing a captive population who has been robbed of everything of looting. I think it’s obscene.” 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the Know Your Rights Camp, an organisation that works to providing resources for Black and Brown communities, including hiring defence attorneys for anyone arrested protesting police brutality.

The Cotton Peace Charity Tee (USD50) is available here.

Freshjive

Known for their outspokenness against topics such as domestic violence and police brutality, it’s no surprise that the Californian streetwear label has released a donation tee in support of BLM. Printed on the shirt is the text, “Black Is Not A Crime”, followed by an image displaying a pair of handcuffed hands. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the Equal Justice Initiative, an organisation committed to protecting basic human rights for vulnerable communities in American society, including ending mass incarceration and excessive punishment.

The Black Is Not A Crime Tee (USD40) is available here.
