First Look At The Sony PS5, Along With New Games Launching Later This Year

PS4 owners, it’s time for a switch-up. The long-awaited reveal of the PlayStation 5 has finally arrived during a Livestream event by Sony earlier this morning, on June 11. The worldwide broadcast had millions at the edge of their seats as Sony unveiled the highly anticipated future of the PlayStation 5 console for the first time, the games that many can expect in the year ahead — and more.

During the livestream, Sony revealed a unique looking console with an asymmetrical look which presumably boasts a more optimal cooling design. There are two versions of the console — a standard “PlayStation 5” and another disc-less “PlayStation 5 Digital Edition” — all of which suggests it will only have a hard drive to store the games with for the latter and a different price point for both.

DESIGN

But let’s take a moment and talk about its design. Now, we can all agree that this new-gen console is definitely one that takes on an entirely different design from its predecessor — especially with two-tone black-and-white face and two white fins on the side. It has sparked conversations around the PlayStation community with many expressing their excitement or disapproval about the look of the new console. Some have even compared it to a Stormtrooper or an “obnoxious wireless router“.

CONTROLLER

Besides the console’s fast SSD and ray tracing features, the DualSense Wireless Controller sees aspects like adaptive shoulder button triggers with haptic feedback, a built-in microphone and a new ‘Create’ button that replaces the PS4 Share button. No doubt, the design of the boomerang-like shaped controller also takes on a radically different look than from its former designs.

ACCESSORIES

As for the tech specs, the PS5 is said to run on an eight-core AMD Zen 2 processor. Accessories such as a wireless headset with 3D audio support, a HD camera for players to broadcast themselves while playing games, a special media remote for navigating through the PS5 menu and a DualSense charging station will also be sold to complement the console.

EXPECTED PRICE OF THE PS5

So how much does it cost? Well, the prices of the console have yet to be revealed, but Jim Ryan, the Chief Executive officer of PS5 has mentioned that the pricing will be fair because of its new features in this next-gen console but it will be a ‘good value’. It is also speculated online that the price of the console would range around $653 to $694 in Singapore — however, prices will be confirmed later on this year when the console is set to be available.

RELEASE DATE

Sony has yet to put an exact date on the release of the PS5, only having said it will come only later this year.

GAMES COMING TO PS5

Aside from the unveiling of the console, PS5 has also revealed some of the games that gamers can expect that’s coming this year and next year:
