The days of subtle, nude lipsticks are over. In its place? Bold lips, which seem to be making a comeback after years of being stifled under our masks. Earlier in July, CHANEL Beauty heralded the arrival of high-intensity, high-impact formulas with the ROUGE ALLURE L’EXTRAIT, a formidable new version of their signature lipstick line that does the most in a single swipe.
Made for boldness, each lipstick contains a high concentration of pigments, in shades that range from intense beige to a fiery red — which, of course, we had to try out. Turns out, these are as major as promised.
The ROUGE ALLURE L’EXTRAIT is housed in a sleek gold case that’s slimmer than its predecessor, though still with that distinctive and satisfying click we associate with the ROUGE ALLURE. As for the shades, these go on vibrant and exciting, and are the kind of colours that absolutely define your makeup look and inspire confidence.
And while there are 20 shades in total, we’ve selected 9 key shades from the series that look flattering across multiple skin tones, pairing them with makeup looks that bring out the scintillating picks.

Beige Brut, for instance, is described as a “light pink beige”, but takes on new meaning when paired with sultry, kohl-lined eyes for a more dramatic effect. Rose Invincible is a lovely retro-tinged rosewood, while Brun Affirmé is a light terracotta that we think is versatile enough to stand out against neutral eyeshadow and natural skin.
The pink tones of Rose Impulsif and Corail Sanguin lean themselves towards glittery eyes and blush that goes right up to the cheekbones, while the stunning Rose Impérial is another favourite of ours that looks especially flattering on a darker skin tone. Of course, there’s also Rouge Puissant, a powerful red that doesn’t need much, save for a rock ‘n’ roll graphic liner.
To note, colour isn’t just the only thing CHANEL has chosen to go full intensity on; the satin-finish formula is also big on radiance and caring for our lips. Its luminous appearance is achieved thanks to ingredients with powerful light-reflecting properties, which creates a sleek look that flatters lips, making them look smooth and cast in the best light. Then, a concentrated conditioning complex keeps lips supple, as ume flower enfleurage oil and plant waxes further nourish, moisturise and protect the lips for up to 12 hours, ensuring both a long-lasting makeup look and healthy lips underneath it.
This is also the first time CHANEL is introducing a refillable lipstick to their line-up, an eco-conscious decision by the Parisian house, and a continuation of their efforts in their N°1 DE CHANEL collection. The refills arrive in a slim golden cartridge that fit in perfectly within the lipstick’s outer case, which gives off a look that’s as luxurious as the formulas within.
