Here’s How You Can Support YWCA’s Food Programmes For Children, Families, And The Elderly

The COVID-19 pandemic and our nationwide circuit breaker measures have not been kind on anyone, but more so for the underprivileged members of society. And while non-profit organisations are doing their best to help, it hasn’t been easy. Charities such as the Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) of Singapore have written to us, and in short,  here’s their current predicament — one, most of them are unable to resume traditional fundraising efforts, and two, beneficiaries under their care are escalating requests for more essential needs in order to tide through these trying times.

Which is where Giving.sg comes in. The online fundraising platform has been an alternative, innovative way to appeal for donations. Backed by the Ministry of Culture, Community & Youth, the portal consolidates various campaigns by registered charities, with key information on the programme’s aims and beneficiaries, and most importantly, provides a secure way for people to donate online.

For YWCA, they are currently appealing for aid for two of their food programmes: Meals-on-Wheels, as well as Sustenance For Families, which are both approved by the official authorities to carry on running during this period.

1. Meals-on-Wheels Programme for Children, Elderly and the Disabled

YWCA’s Hungry No More: Meals-on-Wheels for Elderly, Children and the Disabled programme provides home and school/centre deliveries of free and nutritious lunches for the elderly and disabled, and dinners for children from low-income families every weekday. They are currently serving over 500 beneficiaries daily.

Amount raised: $150,000 from 1,340+ donors

2. Sustenance for Families Programme

YWCA’s Hungry No More: Sustenance for Families programme distributes dry rations and special items such as diapers and milk powder for adults and children to needy families every month. They are currently serving over 1000 beneficiaries with this programme.

Amount raised: $35,000 from 260+ donors
Amount needed: $200,000

Alternatively, their programmes are also listed on local creative agency Tribal’s CCB website, as a non-profit option for members of the public to buy a meal for the vulnerable in the community. Needless to say, any amount donated will be greatly appreciated and will go towards helping an actual person and member of society.
